This Is The Most Expensive Ice Cream In America
How much would you pay for a bowl of ice cream? The sweat treat is one of the most beloved desserts in the world, but part of its popularity and appeal comes from the fact that it’s relatively cheap and easy to get. So what if you were charged the same price as a used car? Some people might splurge every once in a while, but only few would go to the lengths required to try this single scoop.
This bowl of ice cream costs $1,500, and believe it or not, for good reason. Pastry chef Rosario Wakabayashi at the Baccarat Hotel in New York puts a lot of effort into making this typically simple treat well worth the unreal price tag. But the weirdness of some of the ingredients just adds to the challenging nature of this dish.
First of all, they use only the finest ice cream, which is dusted with black truffle crumble and high quality dark chocolate. It’s then sweetened with some hibiscus champagne sauce, and they’re obviously not using cheap bubbly. The unusual mixture is eventually coated in edible gold and silver leafing, which is safe to eat but definitely ups the cost quite a bit.
If all that isn’t enough, it’s covered in carefully constructed edible ornaments, like sugar butterflies, which were inspired by the hotel’s crystal butterflies, seen below. The dessert is then decorated with more beautiful pieces of abstract food art. Chef Wakabayashi used the colors of Madagascar as another primary motivation for the design.
And to top it all off, it’s served in a crystal bear worth $1,200 alone. Check out the video below to see the ice cream being put together and then eaten by a happy customer…
