Preparations for the highly anticipated Rogue One: A Star Wars Story premiere are underway, and Hollywood Blvd has a new visitor. Since Tuesday, an X-Wing has been parked on the busy street.
Major road closures have taken place in Hollywood, many of which will last into next week.
The premiere itself is slated for this Saturday, December 10th, and the movie is set to be released on December 16th. This comes just a year after the hugely popular Star Wars: The Force Awakens exploded in theaters. Is it safe to assume that Disney is doing pretty well these days?
Rogue One takes place prior to the other Star Wars movies. The main character is a young woman named Jyn Erso, played by Felicity Jones, who is ordered to steal plans for the Death Star by the Rebel Alliance. She is accompanied by a group of spies to help her carry out the mission, including one played by the talented Forest Whitaker. But the most anticipated appearance comes by way of James Earl Jones, who will be providing the voice of Darth Vader like old times.
For fans of Darth's (and who isn't a fan?) director Gareth Edwards has assured us that he will play a prominent role in the new film, despite not getting a ton of screen time. This is of course, the first movie in the Star Wars Anthology that will see other films released over the coming years.
As with any Star Wars movie, this one was shot in locations all over the world. Among them, Laamu Atoll in the Maldives, Iceland, Jordan, and a London subway station. Yes, Canary Wharf station was in fact used as a location for a chase scene inside of an Imperial base.
Another consistency among Star Wars movie? The music. Although hall of fame composer John Williams is retired, the quality of compositions has not decreased. In this new chapter, we will be entertained by the music of Alexandre Desplat—he worked on the Godzilla reboot.
Box office wise, it's projecting to earn A LOT of cash. It could get as high as $150 million in its opening weekend! This is a good chunk of cash, but it pales in comparison to Rogue One's opening weekend of $248 million.
If you plan on attending the midnight showing at your local theater, better luck next time. Ticket sale sites like Fandango crashed shortly after presale tickets were made available.
