Sadly, MyPillow Has Been Booted From The BBB

“Hi, I’m Mike Lindell, inventor of MyPillow,” is a phrase we all know and love. Until now. The pillow maestro from the land of a thousand lakes might have just lost his gig.

The Better Business Bureau has revoked the accreditation of MyPillow, Inc., Mike Lindell’s feathery soft empire. According to the BBB website, the organization gave MyPillow a solid “F” rating because of the following issues:

Firstly, their advertising practices are suspect. The BBB cites a number of customer complaints regarding the alleged “Buy-One-Get-One” offer. There was apparently a difference between the version sold at retail stores and the one sold online. Standard pillows are only sold in retail stores while premium pillows are only sold online. This difference was not made clear by MyPillow’s ad campaigns.

Secondly, “Buy-One-Get-One-Free” deals are supposed to only be offered for a limited time. MyPillow customers have been able to apply this deal even when it’s not advertised, thus it should be advertised as the product’s regular price. If a discount is ALWAYS a discount, it’s not a discount. Makes sense?

Yesterday, Lindell released a statement on behalf of his MyPillow empire:

“MyPillow was built on our dedication to our customers’ satisfaction… I am terribly disappointed in the BBB’s decision.”

This is merely another legal issue the company has encountered of late. Back in October, MyPillow was sued in California for claiming that they help with health conditions such as sleep apnea, insomnia, and restless leg syndrome. So far, none of these assertions have been legitimized.

Instead of undergoing a lengthy court process, Lindell paid nearly $1 million to settle the case. MyPillow also donated $100,000 to shelters serving the homeless as well as victims of domestic violence.

From an entertainment standpoint, we’re hoping that Mike Lindell and his great commercials remain on the airwaves. Like this one:

Lindell’s enthusiasm for pillows, and specifically, his pursuit of the “perfect pillow” is unmatched by any other pillow salesman. It started in the mid-2000’s, after Lindell performed years of meticulous research regarding sleep disorders and the role of pillows in preventing them. He then mortgaged his house, sold four bars he owned, and began hand-sewing the pillows and selling them himself.

Regardless of the claims by the BBB, Mike Lindell is truly an entrepreneur to respect. His grit, determination, and risk-taking have made him a household name in the business world and in popular culture.

Much love, Mike.
