Pepe The Frog Is Officially A Hate Symbol

Funny |

It's official, a cartoon frog has been named a symbol of hate by the Anti-Defamation League. This character has been circulating for nearly a year throughout right wing political circles, and has become an internet meme legend.

The ADL put a kabbash on Pepe after claiming it eludes too much to anti-Semitism. But it seems to be more of an indictment of the people who post it, rather than the frog itself. The ADL even stated that "the majority of uses of Pepe the Frog have been, and continue to be, non-bigoted." So it would seem that the ADL is using it more as a condemnation to the "alt-right" movement at large, or at least the factions of it that express anti-Semitism. Although it could be argued that the majority of Pepe content is used to lampoon racism and anti-Semitism, rather than perpetuate it.

In any event, expect a massive increase in Pepe the Frog content in the coming days.
