H-Wood has done it again. For the 12 millionthupteenth time they have produced a poor sequel to a "franchise" that was an overall disappointment to begin with. Independence Day: Resurgence is currently at a 52% Rotten Tomatoes rating, which is 9 points lower than the original movie which was released 20 years ago.
Reviews today are almost identical to those released in 1996 for Independence Day showing Hollywood's utter lack of new ideas or risk taking capability. The casting decision to omit Will Smith from the new chapter (he probably just didn't want to be tied to this turkey) proved unnecessary as we are reminded of the over-the-top nature of his character through the role of Jessie Usher.
When will Hollywood stop acting like a giant recycle bin for failed projects and learn how to beat their own drum? Probably never. Much like the government, these studio elites are entirely out of touch with the populace their purport to be serving.
Or maybe people really want to see these disasters? If so, that's another sad commentary. But in any event, thank God we have so many online alternatives at our disposal to render their decisions increasingly more irrelevant.
