Eden Hazard’s Former Teammate Says He Was Hungover For Final Game of 2012

The Chelsea and Belgium soccer star was allegedly hungover for his final match of the 2012 season, with Lille.

At the time, Hazard was all but transferred to Chelsea F.C. following a stellar season with Lille in France. He scored 3 goals in his final match to cap a 4-1 win, but according to former teammate Rio Mavuba, there was even more adversity at play.

Mavuba claimed that Hazard was in the midst of a massive hangover from a raucous night before. He was essentially playing a full match under very little sleep, and a pounding headache.

Is this performance admiral? Or does it deserve a smh? Probably a little of both. Who’s to say he wouldn’t have scored another goal or two with a clear head?

This truly speaks to the brilliance of Eden Hazard. Love him or hate him, he’s one talented dude—warranting every bit of his 89 rating on FIFA.

In 2010-2011 he was part of the Lille team that won a league and cup title the same year. He was awarded the UNFP Ligue 1 Player of the Year as a result of his performance on that squad.

From 2007-2012, he scored 36 goals for Lille in 147 appearances. Those numbers landed him a signing with Chelsea in June 2012.

The attacking midfielder agreed to a $39 million deal with the Premier League giant, saying “I’m delighted to finally arrive here. It’s a wonderful club and I can’t wait to get started.”

Indeed, Chelsea was in the midst of one of its most successful eras, and it continues to this day.

Hazard makes every other team in the Barclay’s Premier League jealous, including his own. In February 2016, he went as far as to say “it would be difficult to say no” to a move to Paris Saint-Germain. It’s a tad scary for a team that relies heavily on his output.

If there’s any debate about whether Hazard is the best player in English football, this story might put him over the edge. There’s no way that Wayne Rooney could handle a match after a bender… well, maybe that’s a bad example.
