AJ Styles, "The Face that Runs the Place," is one of the biggest names in professional wrestling. If you're not a wrestling fan, you may not have heard of him. But in the WWE universe, he's a titan.
He's also, apparently, a great guy. The father of one of his young fans posted this letter to Facebook. A passing moment of connection with a young kid for AJ was a monumental life event for the kid. The full text may very well make you cry:
Dear Mr. Styles,
I don't know if this will ever reach you but my son and I were going to do this together and now we can't. I owe him to try and reach out to tell you how important this photo was to him.
Last month for Christmas my wife and I got WWE tickets for Nicky. Just two hours later we found out my mother, Nick's Nana had passed. In true Nick fashion he offered up his tickets to his friend Jonathan knowing that he also liked wrestling. He was heart broken as three favorite wrestlers, John Cena, Dean Ambrose and you would be wrestling against each other but he understood he and wanted to be with his Nana.
You see Mr. Styles, Nick had ADHD and when Nick liked something he would hyper focus on it. So Wrestling, WWE in particular was his love. From moment he opened his eyes to minute he closed them it was all about wrestling. If he wasn't playing with his figures, he was on Xbox or on the computer looking up things about wrestlers. The WWE was like family to him.
Anyway back to the point, so on December 26, 2016 we were scheduled to fly to New York from Florida on 7:10 flight which was delayed to 9 then 10 PM. The Airlines then switched us to another flight at 0PM. After very long stressful day we touched down in Newark airport around 11:45PM. We're walking through the Terminal and I hear Nick say "Mom there goes Dolphin Ziggler". But Ziggler had earbuds in and didn't hear him. Then I hear him say very excited "that's AJ Styles" your response was "what's up Bud, I have to catch a flight for a show in Chicago". my wife told we on the way to his Nana's funeral. At that point you stopped dead in your tracks and said "come here bud, who has a camera". You remember that was the point I was hit by the golf cart. We were all so convinced that it was Nana looking down from heaven.
It was a really nice gesture on your part. Now I know this must happen to you all the time but it was so very special to him. It was all he could talk about and we said we going to write to let you know how special it was."
On January 26 of this year. One month to the day tragedy struck. My little boy Nicky had an accident that has left him brain dead. We have decided to donate his organs as this is what he would of wanted. Nick was always trying to help others.
I promised we would write this letter together but we weren't able to. I needed to write this for him. But from me I wanted to thank you giving my Nicky a gift he was so happy with. It was so very special to him. He would walk around chanting "AJ Styles! AJ Styles!". And although he only had memory for a month it was one of his most special memories. My family would like to thank you! You could of just walked by but you stopped and made one special little boy so happy!
I don't know if will ever reach but but I promised my boy I would try. Thank you again!
AJ Styles responded by calling Michael Bongiovanni, the man who wrote the letter. Nicky passed away soon after the letter was written. Styles also helped promote a GoFundMe page to raise money to cover Nicky's funeral expenses.
