Achievements: Levi Strauss & Co. blue jeans
His invention is still worn by millions of people to this very day. No, not underwear, we are talking about blue jeans. Levi Strauss founded the first company to manufacture riveted blue jeans to the masses.
After moving to San Francisco in the mid-1800's, Strauss teamed up with Jacob Davis to create the new style of work pants. Thanks to the population boom caused by the California Gold Rush and Industrial Revolution, Levi Strauss & Co. had plenty of customers over the next 30 years. By the time of Levi's death in 1902, his company had accumulated about $164 million in profits.
